Tom @ CKC Winter Champs Rd3
A cold morning at CKC provided a delay of two hours to the commencement of the Winter series round 3, with ice on the upper half shrouded by trees the "CKC" effect was going to provide us with some exciting racing as the drivers considered which way to setup considering the mix of wet and dry. Tom elected to run heavy to counter the lack of grip under the trees and in the heats this rewarded him with a 2nd in H1 and 1st in H2 giving us a pole position for the final.
Tom has been chasing Ruben who took the H1 win but unable to complete H2 due ignition problems was placed in 6th for the final, a great chance for us to get some points back, Ruben is strong with small grids though so Tom had to push hard from the off.
Tom had a strong setup and off we went pulling a 1.5 sec gap over 2nd place, sadly on lap 3 a red flag incident caused the race to be restarted but at the end of the meeting, the restart was as good and we led away for three laps, the sun having dissapeared had lowered the temperature and Tom was beginning to struggle with grip on the top side.
Bringing the kart home in 3rd place after what appeared to be contact but during some good racing Tom was deflated but positive about the final round.
"The kart was great today, we would have won the first final I think but the changing conditions just weakened the setup later on"
There was also a good performance from Zak Oates, Zak formerly with the team is showing his strengths now and we are sure he will soon be keeping Ruben honest as he continues to develop, certainly a name to look out for in the summer and probably Rubens biggest threat at the CKC summer series.
