CKC Test - James, Holly and Zain
All hopes of a dry test were once again dashed as the rain appeared in the previous 24 hours, we were optimistic of a dry track by 1pm and with CKC setting up on the normal layout we set about reminding the guys that there was now a left turn at the bottom of the hill!
The decision to run on well used inters for the first session kept the guys at the back, but as they had to readjust to the line at the northern end it was not considered a real issue, as we progressed through the morning sessions we endeavoured to run in a wet race trim so the team could see where they were at in realistic circumstances, we had a mixed grid with karts of different ability including a couple of unlicensed novices with Comers and nonstandard engine setups.
As the dry track began to appear we kept the routine going, we had a fast turnaround so track time was plentiful, the times were coming down but we had a few issues with positioning to resolve and continued to work on that with the guys.
Zain in the novice group was now the fastest and gaining ground laying down some tidy laps, enjoying some minor battles with some more experienced lads he was settling down well and is just now beginning to use the throttle in a very able fashion.
Holly is driving well, it did take some time to nail the line but she demonstrated very quickly that she can deal with traffic, passing drivers with twice the Honda experience is becoming a habit now and we look forward to seeing her battling in the next round.
James had a slow start but as the day progressed came alive, his times in the last two sessions matched some of his best and his consistent low 32’s reflect his efforts through the day with a couple of times quicker he was able to leave feeling pleased with the day.
As the day ended we had caught the drivers we were interested in, the dep exhaust was the difference between a few of the karts but we had that resolved as well, thankfully we didn’t spend much time on the grass either so all in a great test day
I was really pleased to see former teammate Harry out there doing so well, having experienced engine deficiencies it was great to see they seem to have been resolved and the boost in his confidence is great.
Well done all as we move on to Clay for the opening MSA round.
