Jamie & Will @ Clay Pigeon
This was a tough weekend for the Clay boys as Will stepped up for his first ever race and Jamie revealed his yellow plates for the first time. The team had a full showing over the weekend with Russ, Matt & Ethan providing driver coaching, mechanics and support on Saturday with Des joining Russ for race day support to the boys on Sunday.
Jamie has been testing very strong recently with times of 41.02 so we were hopeful of a good pace in the racing, Will has also tested really well recently and demonstrating he has the ability to drive in the 41’s already just needed to adapt to the “busy” Honda grid activities!
Saturday testing wasn’t the inspiring pre-race you need being honest from Jamie but as the last few sessions took place he started to get on the money and showed his day best of 41.4, the truth is youngsters have bad days too, we can accept it providing the drivers keep buying the burgers of course eh Jamie :)
Will was driving around in 42.2 area looking good for his first day out and relaxed about the whole affair as well, with only 16 drivers testing it was not the “baptism of fire” normally associated with Honda Cadet!
Sunday saw good grids for a first yellow plate race and reasonable heats saw Jamie place 16th to finish 14th, being his first meeting in the “mix” he learned a great deal and accepted we have more work to do on race craft but make no mistake Jamie is going to the front very quickly and will be a force of the future at the Dorset club circuit.
Will enjoyed his day despite being “assisted” wide by some impatience and dropping his chain, he persevered and finished 19th in the final, Will took home the smile of a lad who had just experienced the first step of the greatest journey for a petrol head.
A great weekend with some spot on learning for all the lads, we look forward to Shenington now with Will Attreed and Zach Hamilton-Taylor, Will with Titan having been refreshed by Matt Charters at Dartford Racing Engines is going to be enjoying the benefits of the latest T2 SP work which has been noticed recently at Clay.
Teaching novices in karting is simply the best learning in the world!
