Will & Hazza - F6 Rd 5 @ Lydd

With Operation Stack blocking the M20 it was an early start for the Veneno team as they headed off to the Kent coast and Lydd race circuit.

The sun was shining and both boys were wide awake and ready for their long track walk with Des and Ethan. Harry has been to Lydd once before for last season's F6 race and for Will it was his very first visit so there was lots to learn.

The opening practice session gave both drivers the chance to put the guidance from Ethan to the test and they both showed impressive pace 'out of the box'. With the 2x local lads (currently 2nd and 5th in the Lydd Championship) leading the way, Harry and Will were chasing hard in 3rd and 4th with Dylan not far behind keeping them honest.

In heat 1, Harry was chasing the local lads in 3rd and built up a bit of a gap between Will and Dylan who were battling hard for 4th place. With Harry off in front, Will had his hands full through the twisty bits as Dylan was obviously geared higher but Will was able to pull away in the straights. They swapped places a couple of times before Dylan was shown the Black and White flag with a couple of laps to go. Unfortuantely for the racing, Dylan thought it was a straight black coming into the pits for a DNF, enabling Harry to finish 3rd and Will in 4th.

Heat 2 was a repeat of heat 1 with Harry securing 3rd while Dylan and Will duked it out for 4th. This time Harry wasn't able to pull a gap and after a few laps all 3 were fighting nose to tail, swapping places and having some great fast and clean racing. All 3 continued the battle to the flag, this time Will coming in 3rd, Dylan 4th and Harry close behind in 5th.

For the 15 lap final, Will lined up P3 with Harry in P4 behind the local brothers, with Dylan and Jacob behind. The start was strong from all the drivers and yet again Will, Harry and Dylan all ended up fighting for the same piece of tarmac in turn 1. The next few corners saw the boys side by side with Harry coming out in front closely followed by Dylan and Will. All 3 resumed the battle they started in Heat 2 and yet again they were continually swapping places lap after lap. On lap 6, Harry locked up into turn 1 and spun himself to the outside of the corner, he recovered quickly but the damage was done and the despite closing the gap to the other 2 he wasn't able to make up the difference by the flag. Meanwhile, Will and Dylan were nose to tail, but Will was determined and was able to keep Dylan behind him and pull away to cross the line in 3rd.

Will collected his trophy for winning the cadet class, Harry was a close 2nd place in the Open cadet class and both boys did extrememly well on a new track with little to no practice time. Their individual strengths shone through today, both improving their lap times in each session and showing their ability to race fast, close and fair.
