Will and Harry @ Clay - F6 Round 6
This weekend saw the Team travel to Clay Pigeon for the penultimate round of the F6 Championship.
Fri 28th
Jack and Will
With Jack still 7 but eager to get started having passed his ARKS several weeks ago he joined Will for the Friday test at Clay, Will was more than happy to help Jack out and following the morning track walk we set about a quick shakedown and onto testing.
Will realising how important this meeting was in terms of Harry’s position and his own in the Honda Cadet championship got his head down very quickly, Harry had not been able to commit to the meeting at this point due family commitments so was sat at home willing Will on to get up to speed, the team needed a win to soften the points loss for Harry so this was about as important as it gets for the Warwick youngster who was also suffering from an accident injury. Will made it quite clear that he understood the plan and was the quickest F6 runner all day on the Friday with his understudy (Jack) not that far behind, Will and Simon both commented on the ability of our newest arrival and we expect him to do well at Camberley in the next season.
Will knocked it on the head quickest and with some strapping needed for his injury wandered off for the evening to rest, Jack finished up with his quickest lap so far and his new livery to show all.
Sat 29th
Harry and Will
Harry managed to get himself over to the Dorset track and went off to walk the circuit he last saw in F6 2014, the two lads and TP spoke about the critical areas and we readied the karts for practice, the morning was a straightforward test session with Will leading Harry to tighten the lines for the first 5 laps of each session, with Dillon looking sharp the meeting was looking close although a relaxed Will was beginning to look like he had an eye on all his rivals and Harry was happy dialling in to Wills line, with only four practices Harry was happy that Will had the pace and the boys settled in to a quick lunch.
With Olly and Kj now responsible for the meetings race paperwork as Ethan was away photobombing celebs at Carfest we had peace and quiet in the awning so we setup on the grid for H1
The heats were a great affair but H1 saw Will starting off P4 and attempting a very long lunge into the hairpin steered off the track to avoid removing Hazza! Admitting his mistake straightaway in the paddock Will quickly apologised to everyone and wandered off to watch the racing with Harry, it’s a reflection on Wills character that he knew it was a late move but got lucky finding an escape gap behind Harry so we move on – lesson learned J 2nd place for “Hazza” and dented pride for Will in 4th
H2 and H3 saw clean drives from both boys with Will winning both and “Hazza” grabbing 2nd and 3rd placing them P1 and P2 in the final.
In the final Will lead from the start and despite a nervous first couple of laps put a nice gap between him and the pack, with Harry waiting for his tyres to come in it was a little while before he got up to speed but coming in 4th he retains his championship lead with a comfortable buffer into the last round.
A delighted Harry paid tribute to Will who simply “drove off” into the distance in the final
“Will was very strong all day, he was a great help this morning, I got one shot to pass him all day and I couldn’t make it stick, I don’t recall seeing him in the final, after the first hairpin he simply disappeared, the first win is a big obstacle to overcome so this seriously changes things now for Bayford, and I don’t intend to let him get away from me there, he really deserves this win though and I am grateful for his support today”
