Henry, Sam, Will and Zach @ Rissington

The lads turned out to the final 1 day event at the Cotswold circuit, with a light layer of fog trying to clear they had a slight delay before being allowed out in 5 sec intervals before the racing began.

With Will taking pole for his first ever race at Rissy and Zach in P2 despite being a novice! It was looking like an interesting start to the day, we had a word with the officials and Zach was dropped back to mid order to save him being “fired” into the green abyss on the start, Henry and Sam were at the back in novice proper land and were eager to get after their teammates.

Will had a great start first time out but an incident on turn 1 saw the race declared a false start? We then had a few random laps and false starts as the grid tried to sort itself out and the trackside staff tried to communicate with random signals to the cadets, eventually both sides gave up and they ground to a halt near the pit entrance to get organised and shout at each other until it was agreed we had to go karting :)

H1 restart saw Will leave Turn 1 in second but his inexperience at Rissy saw him losing places and then he was involved in an incident at Turn 3 which led to him being left behind on the grass, Zach, Henry and Sam were cracking on with the two more experienced lads battling hard for the novice cup, Sam was gaining time at the back and despite his disappointment was closing the gap on Henry and Zach, he has limited experience at Rissy like Will so it was a huge learning curve for him.

H2 saw Will pushed out and despite a bent axle continued to the end, Sam gained another ½, and Henry and Zach battled in low mid order.

H3 and Will was pushed wide injuring his foot, the luckless lad waited in the middle until the end where he was checked over by the medics, despite his best effort and willingness this proved to be the end of Will's day, the recently crowned F6 Cadet champion remained positive and is looking forward to Shenington, Zach and Henry were now battling in the final unaware of teammate Sam lurking within 5 secs of them, with the novice cup up for grabs any of the three could have taken it but Zach’s experience at Rissy proved enough and with new best lap times took the trophy from Henry by 4 secs and Sam only 2 behind Henry, the right result for the novices based on experience.

All of our drivers did a great job with two lads on new turf, Will unlucky this weekend but his driving to date proves that he can deal with the “downs” and we have no doubt he will return strong as ever at the next meeting, Henry and Sam are proving very strong and the feedback now is very good and reliable, Zach drove his heart out in the final and all the lads agreed over cake that he deserved the silver without any doubt.
