Will, Zach, Sam, Will F and Jack @ Shenington

Our 5 young and intrepid novices stepped out on a sunny Saturday to track walk a circuit with genuine history, rumoured to have had Stirling Moss amongst its former competitors in 1962 during the World Karting Championships. The Oxfordshire track has a fantastic pedigree, and in ‘Wilkins’ has one of the UK’s most exhilarating corners for any kart racer.

Jack had just popped over for track time on the Saturday and was looking forward to meeting the Shenington crew who were quick to welcome him aboard, one of the team’s youngest drivers Jack is showing impressive pace but is still working on his positioning, he will be competing in the CKC winters with Luke, Harry and a new driver soon to be announced!

Saturday was a steady affair in cool air, Zach was showing some amazing pace following on from his last meeting here where he was running in 8th during the final. Zach without any doubt is a lot quicker since his arrival, his thought processes are improving and these showed as he carved his way through busy test sessions, despite not improving on his pb he displayed he is ready to go racing.

Sam of course has had something of a ‘busy’ time over the last couple of months so was out to rebuild his confidence and get some hours on the book, with a target of late 53’s Sam was proving he has the consistency so just pushing a little harder in general at Wilkins was the main aim and we succeeded in that goal.

Will Forber was there to prove how well he has come on in general, knowing that he had a ‘Preston’ motor to put hours on for race day he spent the test day with a huge knowing grin on his face! This was going to be the weekend that he made everyone sit up and that he did...

Will Attreed was ‘dialling in’ and working on a couple of braking areas, Will has the ability to run at the front and we were now looking to close that known 0.4 gap to the top 6.

The test day was on the whole a success despite not all of the targets being met, lines and brake points across the board were improved and general pace was improved, Jack left with a very satisfying lap time and 4 new friends – result!

Race day.

With four heats the lads were not all in the same heats so it was going to be a busy day, the weather was dry and cool but a chance of light showers meant the inters had to be prepared as well, with the karts ready early we enjoyed a coffee and went off for a track walk casually accompanied by Tom Canning, Tom of course happens to be the 2014 Honda British Champion, a fair few tips later and the boys were ready to go racing, with Tom promising to watch the lads when possible.

The Heats and practice were straightforward enough with just a mad moment when it seemed rain would come into play, Will Forber went out on Inters and typically the sun came out for him, Will Attreed had decided a seat change was needed and Sam was just improving his times every session but more importantly just loving the racing.

The Final saw Zach run wide and involved in a red flag moment, sadly unable to continue Zach’s brilliant weekend had ended, he had been present at the higher end of the grid all weekend and his pace was brilliant, without any doubt Zach is going to be a top 5 runner early in the new year and at his current development rate will be able to race with the best.

Our F6 Cadet Champion Will Attreed was well placed in the final for a top 10, his seat adjustment was a great move and along with a few other mods had improved his times to match his pb from the summer – finishing 15th he was holding his own and probably could have been 10th or 11th based on his pace – a steady improving weekend Will – well done

Will Forber was 22nd out of 31 and rattling around with a huge grin, had he not been in the novice land for the start he would have been up with Will A so it’s just track time for now but an equally great job.

Sam was racing for all his worth and having a great time with the novices, he is coming on well after the huge Clay moment, not his best times but certainly his best weekend for development, Sam will progress well as we continue into the cold season.

A steady weekend for the lads but improvements across the board certainly by Zach and Jack, Will Attreed has enjoyed better days but thankfully demonstrated it was more about the kart so we look forward to simply ‘cracking on’ at the next meeting.

So with the Dads enjoying coffee, team runners creating viral videos of tyre racing, drivers enjoying a bag of chips we move on to the next round, all the lads are ready to go forward now at a better pace overall.

Well done guys – a great job once again
