With rain forecast for most of the day at the Surrey circuit we launched our pop up and unloaded Harry’s kart, having always delivered in wet to damp conditions we fancied a chance of a trophy for this one especially following his recent pace at Camberley.

During the morning check over we noticed a level of damage to the lower ‘D’ bar, we hadn’t had a great deal of contact so it was a bit of a mystery especially when you see the picture of the bare chassis. The kart was taken to scrutineering and given a pass so we settled in and waited for the rain to arrive.

Three lap practice was done on inters and Harry returned happy with the setup but reporting a slight understeer on the main corners!

With the track drying we put the dry tyres on for H1 and arrived at the grid as the only kart to commit to slicks, a nervous twitch from some of the others on the grid indicated the thought that we may have made a good call…. we were confident that once we got them warm we may be able to get up to the front early on and Harry went off the lights and overtook two before turn one – all good!

We noticed he had some understeer but put it down to Harry trying a little too hard, he ended up stuck behind Fergus who had no intention of letting him get by and with Harry seemingly unable to exit the bus stop could not overtake before turn 1.

H3 saw a wet race so on went the wets and with the front of the kart nice and wide Harry went through the green lights turned the wheel confidently to the right and………………………………………..nothing!

A short recovery and an attempt to do another lap but a frustrated driver returned to the pit unable to finish the day, with the chassis refusing to go to the right which tends to be a fundamental part of the CKC layout the advantage we had going left was not going to work for us – the day was concluded with Darren Jones taking home Harry’s hard working 2008.
