Shenny final Round: Will, Henry and Sam
The Race day atmospherics at Shenny despite the wind and light rain in the air followed on from the CKC smiles, the lads had had a strong test day and were eager to take that pace to the heats, a small conversation to do with some light contact within the team but as there were no hard feelings we discussed how it occurred and how it could be avoided if we had the same situation – Will, Sam and Henry are very level headed types and after the conversation we moved on happy to chatter about the various elements involved in getting around “Shenny”
The pop ups and side awning were bolted to the ground and short of ripping the pit bay from the historic circuit grounds we were happy that we would have a form of shelter during the day, we then looked around, as you do (let’s be honest now!!) and bets were placed on who’s awning would be first to go, we got it wrong though didn’t we Rob and Jaydan!
On to the practice then as we sat there nice and relaxed Henry casually pointed out that he didn’t have his seat pad in so the pedals were “in the distance” Dad exits stage left running for the awning and returns in time for Henry to get the required lap in, thankfully all the lads were dialled in well and Henry managed to catch a couple up aided by a little “red mist”
The feel for the karts was good, we just had to watch the changing weather, the bets were for a dry day …. eventually, we removed the inters and setup for the slicks, just as we finished of course the sky got a little darker!
H1 was a dry affair and the boys got off to a good start
False starts seem to be the order of the day but for our novices it’s all good practice and when they got it right we had some great racing, Will was “involved” and enjoying staying within 10 seconds of the front, Sam and Henry were battling to be best novice and that was the scene for the day.
Still dry and Will lost a few places as we struggled with a last minute condition change, Sam and Henry were racing hard and both making ground toward the final, still more false starts but hey ho all good start practice eh!
Will drove the final like the able driver we know is within, running 3 tenths off the leaders pace we could see the determination which is exactly what was going on between Henry and Sam at the back, sadly the battle for best novice was ended as Sam was impeded by another driver, Henry took the best novice and following a discussion with the officials a very happy Sam grabbed 3rd novice place, I think it’s highly likely that Sam would have caused Henry some problems had he got on the same piece of tarmac but the efforts of our two novices were brilliant to watch and reflect the ongoing development.
