Will #39, Sam #15, Will #71 and Jaydan #34 plus the entertainment crew @ Shennington
Arriving at the Oxfordshire track at 0720 it was obvious that we had experienced some snowfall during the night, not a particularly heavy fall it was still leaving a lot of people in doubt as to whether we would get any racing in, the Shenington kart club had other ideas though!
The tannoy call for everyone to hit the track in cars, vans and just about everything that moved managed to clear the track and despite being incredibly cold and fully wet by 11:30 we were stood at briefing ready to make the best of a short day.
Jaydan wearing the shiny new Veneno / Team Pelfrey livery had joined the team for 2016 and having had a good test day was a little taken aback by the weather and also Will Forber’s intent to have a snowball fight with everything that moved, the boys despite the weather were having a good time and after having a good test were looking forward to the now 2 x 10 min race plus final? What actually happened of course was a quick practice, 1 10 min heat and a ten min final which we were lucky to get considering the circumstances so well done Shenny – top effort.
Heat 1 was a steady affair with Will F grabbing 11th after a good steady race with Will A gaining on him but Will succumbed to a technical issue 2 laps from the end sadly, Sam and Jaydan ficihed in the back 8 with very respectable times but both lads suffering from the cold.
Heat 2 and Will A had a fantastic start holding 3rd at Café but was forced wide off the track only to spend the race having a fantastic drive to recover from last to 17th, Will F managed a very credible 13th Jaydan had a cracking race going at the back with the novices until he just let it go wide at Wilkins and got hooked up on the kerb, Sam managed to grab best novice and the trophy reflects his efforts of late.
Through no fault of anyone’s a bit of a messy day but the season is underway and the boys are more than up for the challenge, we return to Shenny in February knowing we have a good pace to work with.
