Ben, Luke, Toby, Jack, Henry, Henry P and Jonathon @ CKC
The day began with a flat tyre on the A303 and luckily for me the Teams Senior Max was grabbing a coffee at the same service station!
With the “thunderbus” rolling again we arrived at CKC to a damp track and got everyone setup, with two Bambino’s, four Honda’s and our Junior Max on site it was a steady day for all and with the lads having been walked around the track we set about the day.
The Vipers (Jonathon and Henry) have been running-in their motors and this was the last session for the lads on this setup, the times however have improved and with the lines improving we found ourselves within a couple of seconds of the tuned engines that we have been against over the winter, the lads happy with the knowledge of enhanced power at the next session left having had a great day out, the engines were boxed and sent North for inspection.
Luke and Toby have been racing fiercely for the Winter series and with the lads positioned 1 and 2 were focused to do the same again as round 2, with Luke taking wins in H1 and H2 the final looked set for the teams Honda 44 but a significant understeer issue prevented him from getting away to any degree and two laps from the end Toby capitalised on the problem, Luke tried hard to get back on terms but it finished 1-2 and Toby heads into the 4th round a sliver ahead so I suspect separate garages for the boys in February which could be quite funny.
Henry Forber out on his last novice plate race had a steady meeting, a little under the weather he was mid order and just ensuring he got the kart home, a great effort under the circumstance from the team’s tenacious number 53 who will no doubt be grabbing heat wins before the end of 2016.
Jack Clements is now driving with confidence and in Heat 1 appeared in P4 where he remained for three laps before a slip of the wheel moved him to the latter part of the grid, H2 and the Final were similar results but Jack demonstrated very clearly that he is learning and there can be no doubt that he is very much a determined racer, and one who will be racing at the front very quickly.
Ben turned out to work hard and in practice went quickest, in Heat 1 finished 5th but 2nd fastest, Heat 2 came 3rd and probably could have got 2nd with another lap.
The final was an unfortunate matter as a misfire on the start had Ben falling to last but 1, his efforts to recover were immense but we only managed a 5th on a day where I think he was good for 3rd at least, the times in the final reflected the problem but he had had a great day and looks forward to the next session at Forest Practice in Feb.
With all of the lads watching Toby then concluded the day by winning the Iame Final and left for Whilton hoping to make it three, Toby’s arrival within the team during the winter has been inspirational to all of our young drivers, with a serious push into Super One this season he has more silverware to follow before he moves up for the 2017 season.
Top day, top drivers…well done all.
