The forecast for the ‘Shenny’ weekend was dry and had been for a while, packing the umbrella’s we considered the potential for running the team closer to the equator as it seems every time we go to Shenington we have showers despite the dry and sunny forecasts.
With the Aussies arrival delayed due to an anniversary celebration (you would have thought they could have delayed that eh!) the boys set about the first sessions. We had a damp track to start which was going to require ‘inters’ but this was going to dry, we knew this as the sky was blue???
Saturday testing went well despite the appearance of a few light showers in the afternoon! Jaydan making the greatest progress overall was glowing with confidence we thought………this turned out to be acute sickness which ended his weekend as he drove home, blame initially was put on the combination of burgers and pastilles washed down with copious amounts of cola and Fanta but a bug was confirmed by mum, Rob (#34dad) appeared on raceday to provide moral support, gutted that they couldn’t demonstrate the new pace we wished Jaydan well and went off to finish his sweets and drinks now we knew they were ok!
Next to Jaydan Will Attreed had shown well in practice on his newly arrived 2015, still ‘tweaking’ the kart Will was running round in the front end and mixing it up, a great sign from Will who has more than enough ability to run at the sharp end, Sam and Jack are progressing well and with Sam about to leave his novice plates behind wanted to grab the novice cup for the last time, Jack was not going to make it easy for Sam though and with Will Forber just ahead of them on the grids it looked to be a great day.
Race day was a reasonable affair although a level of contact affected both Will A and Will F, #39 had proved he had a good start ability now but being forced wide put a ‘damper’ on his new consistent pace.
Sam and Will had what we all know to be ‘so so’ days, lots of effort going in but just not really getting anywhere, Will F was running well high mid order but not progressing due to unpredictable traffic, Jack was a little further up the road driving hard and still getting used to the ‘pecking order’
Will A managed a very credible 11th in the final after pushing hard in traffic, his times also now consistently quicker, with a better grid in the final I think he was a top 6 but that will come soon. Jack Sam and Will finished 19, 21 and 22nd, mainly due contact which could not have been avoided, Jack having started 13th was frustrated but had been on a competitive grid so had done well through the day.
Jaydan we hear is well and the lads went home having enjoyed a good weekend of racing and development with new PB’s as well, into Easter holidays we go with lots of training at various tracks, have a great holiday break.
