Ben, Sam, James, and Harry @ CKC
Associated drivers – Olly Smith and Freddie LaRosa
The uncertain weather forecast had the boys taking a good look around on the track walk early on, with Olly on his first race he was intent on showing the lads what he was made of, James and Harry both in their early stages of racing were thinking about the novice cup, Ben and Sam were hoping for podiums again, recent performances indicated a strong chance of a result and of course both lads are strong in the mixed weather conditions.
On practice days recently Olly has shown he is more than able to go racing and he was equally in for a chance of the Novice cup, his pace in the heats equal to James and Harry and the three lads were generally in the same place,
James and Harry are still tidying up the lines in certain areas and Olly’s confidence on the kerbs was the main difference, Olly took the Novice cup in the final with all three lads grabbing PB’s, James and Harry proved in the final they can go racing so we will make sure that happens from Heat 1 next time out!
Ben enjoyed a strong level of pace in the heats but a ‘coming’ together damaged the steering, in the final he was 2 tenths faster than the leader but despite homing in on Ben Hunt and Matt Jones in the last three laps the places remained unchanged and Ben took a very credible third place.
Sam grabbing a 2nd 3rd and 4th in the heats had a P3 start in the final and came in 4th 3 tenths off the front, Sam did everything right but a minor handling issue possibly held him back from having a go at his friendly rival Neo, that said Neo drove a great meeting and Sam will be upping his game, will be great to see them back together at the next round.
Freddie had a minor hiccup to start the day but managed to go racing, his times are still off the front but we are very happy with his progress on lines, his pace will improve as his confidence progresses very soon.
On the whole a good day but for some a slow start, PB’s for the novices so they can celebrate the effort in the final, next time lads we set them in H1!!
Having now watched the F1 at Spa I realise that we aren’t the only ones having a rough weekend, we will all move on very quickly as always but Kimi gets to keep bits of Red Bull carbon fibre as a trophy!
Keep it flat out there and keep watching for news of developments ahead in 2017.
